How the time is worked out
- The payment is credited in the ledger that holds it, as soon as that ledger is validated. Ledgers close about every 3–5 seconds, which is usually how long a payment takes from being sent.

- A busy network can push a payment into a later ledger, so some payments take a little longer.
- A block time is an average or a target set by the network; any single block can arrive sooner or later.
